Audi introduced their R8 LMS in 2015 as their GT3 class car, replacing the highly successful R8 LMS Ultra. As usual in GT3 spec cars, an “Evo” amendment is made 3-4 years after the car is introduced, resulting in the 2019 R8 LMS Evo. Despite aero changes to the front and rear the car remains instantly recognisable.
Audi Sport Team Phoenix takes P1 in 2019 at the Green Hell at the Nurburgring circuit, after a dramatic time penalty was served to the first place Porsche. The latter was penalised for speeding in a 120kph speed zone and ignoring double yellow flags, resulting in victory to the Audi at the end of a dramatic and incident filled 24 hours.
